I was in the card aisle at the store the other day and there was a woman next to me talking on her phone. I heard her say "do you remember when she used to leave us something on our beds for when we got home on valentines day? It always made me feel so important and loved." I'm not sure who she was talking to, or who they were talking about, but it stuck with me after I left the card aisle that day. My parents have always given me gifts on valentines day. But, they also have always made a point to tell me every other day that they love me, too. And, whether it's just on valentines day that you are reminded that you're important and that you're loved, or whether you hear it every day, it matters. But, what I think really matters is that we don't only focus on the people that we love, but also the things around us that we love, every single day. We only have a short amount of time on this earth, in the greater scheme of things, why not focus on love every single day? I have nothing against valentines day, at all. I think it's a great holiday. But I don't think it's great just because it's a day to give gifts to people we love, but because it's a day to stop and remember how important love is. Love for yourself, love for your family, love for your friends, and love for your life.
And, just in case you need a little help today thinking about the things that are worth loving, I have compiled a list for you of the things that I love.
